Improving our support to clients returning to India
In March 2016 Hibiscus Initiatives went on a field trip to gain more knowledge and insight into the process of returning to India. We focussed on the barriers and difficulties that exist for those returning and resettling back to India. We also met with a wide variety of not for profit organisations and key partners who can provide us with local referral pathways and contacts – enhancing the chances of successful reintegration.
Whilst there we were able to meet former clients, and hear their stories about the resettlement process; gaining greater understanding of what works and what’s needed. We also spent valuable time with partner organisations from different areas of the country, to discuss policy, government practice, research and evidence.
Successes
It was ‘early days’ for all our clients, but in general they were managing to sustain themselves. One had managed to set up his own catering business within his local community, whilst another had recently secured a job as a teacher. Our support had been instrumental in them being able to initially return safely and support themselves and their families.
