We published the Tackling Double Disadvantage 10-point Action Plan in March 2022, in partnership with Muslim Women in Prison, Zahid Mubarek Trust, Criminal Justice Alliance, Agenda Alliance and Women in Prison. This is a plan for change to tackle the ‘double disadvantage’ of gender inequality and racism faced by Black, Asian, minoritised and migrant women in contact with the criminal justice system.
Through the Action Plan, we aim to support criminal justice agencies to implement necessary reforms to policy and practice. It was developed through consultation with women with lived experience, government officials and specialist organisations.
On Wednesday the 5th of July 2023 Hibiscus went to Parliament to debate the Double Disadvantage progress report. The debate drew attention to the wider inequalities faced by Black, Asian, minoritised and migrant women in contact with the criminal justice system, as highlighted in a One Year on Progress report published by the Tackling Double Disadvantage partnership.
