Hibiscus is pleased to announce the appointment of Baljit Banga as Chief Executive Officer.
Baljit Banga was most recently Executive Director at Imkaan, a UK-based, umbrella women’s organisation dedicated to addressing violence against Black and minoritised women and girls. Prior to Imkaan, Baljit served as director of London Black Women’s Project for thirteen years. She is now preparing a PhD for submission to the University of Bath and will be joining the Hibiscus team on 1 October 2023.
Annette So and Rosalyn Akar Grams, co chairs of Hibiscus’ Board of Trustees said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Baljit to Hibiscus. Her interest and expertise in intersectionality and black feminism will support our ambitions from Hibiscus to be at the forefront of challenging and reimagining the criminal justice and immigration systems – particularly how they impact on Black, minoritised and migrant women.”
Baljit said: “I feel excited and honoured to be joining Hibiscus at this point in its history. Hibiscus has been an incredibly important organisation for more than 35 years supporting and advocating for women trapped in the UK’s immigration and criminal justice systems. Our new strategy creates a clear path to ensuring that the women we work with can help transform those systems for the future.”
