We are delighted to announce that Hibiscus has been appointed to the Women’s Justice Partnership Delivery Group (PDG). Through this, we will support the Women’s Justice Board’s (WJB) important work towards their goal of reducing the number of women in prison and addressing the distinct needs of women in the criminal justice system. Our selection for this position was based on our expertise as a specialist organisation supporting Black and minoritised migrant women in contact with the Criminal Justice System. We are excited for the opportunity to share our knowledge and experience, and to advocate for Black and minoritised migrant women in this space. Through this, we hope to affect much needed change. The PDG’s initial focus areas will mirror those of the WJB:

  • Early intervention and diversion
  • Community solutions
  • Pregnant women and women with young children
  • Young adult women

We look forward to working towards this exciting new challenge. Baljit Banga, Hibiscus’ CEO responds to the announcement: “We are delighted to be selected as member of the Partnership Delivery Group that will work together with the Women’s Justice Board. For over 35 years, we have been supporting Black and minoritised migrant women in contact with the Criminal Justice and Immigration systems. In our day-to-day work, we witness the harm that prison inflicts on the women we support.  We are looking forward to collaborating and sharing our expertise with the WJB to address and tackle the disproportional treatment that Black and minoritised migrant women experience in the CJS and to work to end the criminalisation of all women without discrimination.”
