This short illustrated guide by Penal Reform International to the United Nations Rules for the Treatment of Female Prisoners and Non-Custodial Measures for Women Offenders (the ‘Bangkok Rules’) adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2010 covers:

  • the profile of women prisoners and why international standards were needed
  • who the Rules protect
  • what the Rules say
  • who should be involved in their implementation.
