Hibiscus supports Free for Good Campaign
When a person escapes from modern slavery they need help. Somewhere safe to stay, medical treatment, mental health support, legal advice, training, education and most importantly someone to walk alongside them as they figure out their next steps in rebuilding their life. Most of all they need security and stability as they look to the future.
Free for Good is a new campaign supported by many anti-trafficking charities, as well as Hibiscus Initiatives. The campaign champions Lord McColl’s Modern Slavery (Victim Support) Bill which will be taken through the House of Commons by Rt Hon Frank Field MP. The Bill will give victims of modern slavery in England and Wales a guaranteed right to support in law, not only in the initial period while the NRM decision confirming that they are a modern slavery victim is made, but also for the option of a further 12 months afterwards including leave to remain.
The Bill was debated at Second Reading on 8th September and was supported by Peers from all parties. Unfortunately, the Government has not yet agreed to support the Bill.
