Stephen Shaw’s follow up report on the welfare in detention of vulnerable persons

Stephen Shaw’s follow up report on the welfare in detention of vulnerable persons

Assessment of government progress in implementing the report on the welfare in detention of vulnerable persons

A follow-up report to 2016 review of the welfare in detention of vulnerable persons to the Home Office by Stephen Shaw was published in July. This detailed report also recognised and complimented the services Hibiscus provides:

Across all IRCs, I felt that information on easing the process of leaving the UK was lacking. I commend the resettlement services provided by the charity, Hibiscus. These were highly valued and should be extended.”

“As elsewhere, I encountered the excellent work of Hibiscus Initiatives. I note that this is part-funded by the EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund, and strongly urge that domestic resources are found so that it continues post-Brexit.”

“Welfare support had transferred from Barnardos to Hibiscus, and Hibiscus’s immigration expertise had had positive results”

“Hibiscus had been in Yarl’s Wood for a signifcant period and, as elsewhere in the estate, they did valuable work preparing detainees for removal by drawing on the charity’s links in the detainees’ countries of return.”
